Terms of Service

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of the Leafline mobile application ("the App") on iOS and Android. By downloading, installing, or using the App, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the App.

The App is provided by Nikola Kretschmer ("we", "us", or "our"), based in Lower Saxony, Germany. These Terms are governed by the laws of Germany (see Section 12).

1. The service

Leafline helps you track your houseplants and reminds you when to check and water them if the soil is dry. The App provides:

  • A watering-schedule engine that estimates watering intervals.
  • Local reminders/notifications.
  • Care logging (watering, fertilizing, repotting).
  • Ways to add plants by name, from a bundled species list, or by photo identification (paid).

The core features work offline and without an account.

2. Not professional or horticultural advice

Leafline provides estimated guidance only. Watering intervals are calculated from general models and the information you enter; they are not guaranteed to be correct for your specific plant, environment, soil, container, or climate.

  • Reminders are prompts to check the soil and water only if the plant needs it — not instructions that your plant requires water at that moment.
  • You are solely responsible for the actual care of your plants. We are not liable for plant damage, decline, or death, or for any property damage (e.g., over- or under-watering) resulting from your use of the App.

The App does not provide advice on plant toxicity, safety for pets or humans, or edibility. Any species or toxicity information shown is general reference material and may be incomplete or inaccurate. Do not rely on the App for decisions about the safety of any plant for people or animals.

3. Plant identification feature

Photo-based plant identification is an optional, paid feature that uses a third-party service (Google's Gemini API).

  • Identification results are estimates and may be wrong. Do not rely on them for any decision where misidentification could cause harm (including toxicity or edibility judgments).
  • Identification requires an internet connection and is subject to the availability and terms of the third-party provider. We do not guarantee its accuracy, availability, or continued operation.

4. Purchases and the lifetime unlock

  • Leafline offers a single one-time, non-consumable "lifetime unlock" that enables premium features (such as photo identification and additional plant capacity). There are no subscriptions or auto-renewing charges.
  • All purchases are processed by the Apple App Store or Google Play, subject to their terms. Pricing is shown in the App at the time of purchase.
  • Restore Purchases: You can restore a previous purchase on a new or reinstalled device using the in-app "Restore Purchases" option.
  • Refunds are handled by Apple or Google according to their respective policies. We generally cannot issue refunds directly.
  • The scope of free versus premium features may change in future versions, but a purchased lifetime unlock will continue to grant the premium entitlement it was sold with.

5. License to use the App

Subject to these Terms, we grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to use the App on devices you own or control, for your personal, non-commercial use.

You agree not to:

  • Copy, modify, reverse-engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract the source code of the App, except to the extent permitted by law.
  • Circumvent, disable, or interfere with the App's premium-feature gating, purchase validation, or security.
  • Use the App to violate any law or the rights of others.
  • Abuse, overload, or attempt to gain unauthorized access to any backend service, proxy, or third-party API used by the App.

6. Your content and data

  • Data you enter (plants, notes, care history, settings, and attached photos) is stored locally on your device. You are responsible for backing it up; we are not responsible for data lost due to device failure, uninstalling the App, or OS backup behavior.
  • You retain ownership of photos you provide. By using photo identification, you grant us and our identification provider a limited license to process the submitted image solely to perform the identification, as described in the Privacy Policy.
  • You represent that you have the right to submit any photo you upload.

7. Third-party services

The App relies on third-party services, including the app stores (Apple, Google), RevenueCat for purchase management, and Google's Gemini API for the photo-identification feature. Your use of those features is also subject to those parties' terms and privacy policies. We are not responsible for third-party services and do not guarantee their availability or accuracy.

8. Availability and changes

  • We may update, modify, or discontinue the App or any feature at any time, with or without notice.
  • Features that depend on internet connectivity or third-party services may become unavailable if those services change or shut down.
  • We are not obligated to provide support, maintenance, updates, or new features.

9. Disclaimer of warranties

THE APP IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE," WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, whether express, implied, or statutory, including but not limited to implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the App will be uninterrupted, error-free, secure, or that its schedules or identifications will be accurate.

10. Limitation of liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, Nikola Kretschmer SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR FOR ANY LOSS OF DATA, PLANTS, PROFITS, OR PROPERTY, ARISING OUT OF OR RELATED TO YOUR USE OF (OR INABILITY TO USE) THE APP.

To the extent liability cannot be fully excluded, our total aggregate liability is limited to the amount you paid for the App (if any) in the twelve (12) months preceding the claim.

Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations, so some of the above may not apply to you.

11. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Nikola Kretschmer from any claims, damages, liabilities, and expenses arising out of your misuse of the App or violation of these Terms.

12. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of Germany, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. Any disputes shall be subject to the competent courts for the developer's place of business in Lower Saxony, Germany, except where applicable consumer-protection law grants you rights in your place of residence.

13. Changes to these Terms

We may revise these Terms from time to time. The "Last updated" date reflects the latest version. Continued use of the App after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.
